Num Lock

Activates the menus that allow the user to choose different options and change Atlas 's settings.

Atlas / Strider Toggle

Back Slash (/)

Switches between Atlas Speaks and Strider .

Voice Settings

Asterisk Key (*)

Change the Voice Settings, including voice rate, tone, speed and selection.

Help

Minus (-)

This is a context-sensitive help key, which will display help information for example on menu items, if pressed while in the menus.

Major Intersections

Home (7)

Describes the current location, relative to the ten nearest major intersections.

Move Forward

Up Arrow (8)

Moves the Atlas cursor forward in the current direction. Also moves the cursor up in Menus.

Route Status

Page Up (9)

When using a Route file, this indicates the nearest waypoint ahead, and calculates the distance travelled and the distance needed to complete the Route.

Escape

Plus (+)

Exits the current activity, gets out of Help or backs out of the current menu list.

Rotate Left

Left Arrow (4)

Rotates the Atlas cursor to the next street to the left of the current position. In a menu, it can be used like the Escape key.

Select

(5)

Selects the current choice in a Menu or dialog box.

Rotate Right

Right Arrow (6)

Rotates the Atlas cursor to the next street to the right of the current position. In a menu, it can be used like the Enter key.

Key Describer

End (1)

Describes the function of the other keys. Press this key and the other keys become inactive; then press any key and it describes its function. Press the Describer key again to return the keypad to normal operation.

Undo Last

Down Arrow (2)

When traveling on the map, this

Move

allows the user to undo the last movement forward, up to ten steps back. Also moves the menu cursor down in a Menu.

Speech Review

Page Down (3)

Allows the user to enter and move about in the Speech Review buffer when Atlas is giving directional data, such as Major Intersections, Route Status, or 'Where Am I?' information.

Speak

Enter

Starts and stops speech while in a Menu or when Atlas is giving location or status information.

Where Am I?

Insert (0)

Describes the current location in terms of the intersection nearest to the Atlas cursor using the street (or streets) in front and behind, and the streets to the left and right. It uses the clock format to indicate directions relative to the cursor. Also gives the actual address of the current location.

Skip Text

Delete (.)

When Atlas is giving status or location information, this key allows the user to skip the current text information and move on to the next entry in the list.
